Carnaval!! 'Un grand festival'....

On Friday, February 19, we celebrated our Fench culture at Vista! We held our own Carnaval and it was an awesome experience! Carnaval stems from our first French pioneers who settled along the St.Lawrence River, and found our winters to be long and at times lonely. So Carnaval was born! It was an occasion for family and friends to gather, play some games, share some food and bring warmth to their hearts!

We kept the tradition alive and celebrated in Carnaval spirit! Even Bonhomme himself travelled all the way from Quebec to visit us at Vista! Thank you Bonhomme! Ask your children about the experience!

Merci a tout le monde!

What an EXPERIENCE!

We had the most awesome opportunity to see chicks being born! We were able to walk down the hall into Mrs. Weins's secondary science class, to see chicks hatching from eggs! We were also able to visit them 4 days later and see their growth and note their changes! Talk to your child about this! They are excited to share this experience with you!

April news!

Happy April! We are excited to do more outdoor learning as the warm weather approaches! Keep in mind that with a new season,  we need to dress accordingly. It would be great to have a pair of outdoor shoes, (not necessarily boots) and indoor shoes, which are kept clean!

We have been learning the different sounds we hear in words, by breaking down the syllables. This is something that you can do with your child, English or French! The class has been working hard by making books, reading small words, and filling in the missing letters in the morning message!  Most of them have been able to share their great efforts with other teachers and of course our very own, M Bisson....who has the best smelly stickers in the world! We are preparing them for the final journey into Grade 1! With your consistent help, they will have a strong foundation as they leave their fond Kindergarten class.

We had a wonderful time with the Windsor Symphony! Thanks to Mme Lee-Daigle for organizing the event for us! Now, we are into planting! We had the chance to plant seeds of flowers, and hopefully, they will grow right before our eyes! We will measure and chart their growth, and just appreciate what nature does for us!

We are looking forward to our film, Rio 2, on April 28. Thank you for your cooperation in allowing your child to attend! If you would like to come, there will be a small fee. You can send the money via your child, and of course, no food allowed due to severe allergies that exist in many of our classes. There will not be any food sold as well. We greatly appreciate your understanding!

Thank you for your random acts of kindness! Thank you to Sophia's mom, Bella's mom, Mikaela and Melea's mom, Logan's mom, Amber's mom and Isaac's mom for your random acts of kindness.

If you have any questions and concerns, please don't hesitate to call!

Merci!

Welcome back to March!

I hope you had a chance to rest and re-energize during the March break! I am looking forward to spring and all that it brings! We will continue to reinforce letter sounds, and blending them together. Providing my students with a strong foundation of letter sounds will better equip them as they venture to grade one. Please assist me in this effort with your child, perhaps by reading together or by simply bringing letter cards together to make"silly" words! As spring approaches, we will be planting  flowers and charting its growth, once again reinforcing measurement. Also the concept of  balance; items being heavier, lighter and how to achieve that equal balance! Also, as spring inches in, we will have opportunity to note, draw, talk and sing about the changes we see! Fun stuff!

Tomorrow is Spring Picture Day! Please be ready!

Thanks again for your cooperation in education! If you come across any odds or ends while cleaning out the closet, that you would like to donate to the class, I would appreciate it!
For example, yarn, spools, paper towel rolls, scrap book items, pieces of fabric, puzzles, small mirrors, etc!

Merci!

Mme Burnham

Check it out!

Hello Tecumseh Vista families! Thank you for coming in during parent-teacher interviews! It was very nice to see you again!  There were many great suggestions brought forward, and here is the first suggestion completed! Refer to "calendar" on the side of the home page to see what the week holds! For example, it will state when we have gym, music and drama, etc., as well as forms that needs to be completed and returned. I hope this will help! Also, many of you asked about my songs. Some of the songs come from a singer, Alain Le Lait. You can find him on Youtube. Look for songs such as, " Il a les yeux rouge...", J'aime les fruits",  "bonjour"! Enjoy!

I am in the process of posting key words in French that the class is focussing on. For example, during our family project! We reviewed words such as;

Maman- mom
Papa- dad
C'est moi- that's me
Mon frere- my brother
Ma soeur-my sister
Voici ma famille- here is my family!

As we approach Valentine's day, our key words reflect love, kindness, friends, etc.. Such as;

L'amour- love
Amis- friends
Je t'aime- I love you
Gentille- kind
Coeur- heart
Rouge et rose- red and pink

Everyday our students are hearing and understanding more and more and many are speaking in French as well. During this next term of the year, our focus will be reading (in the simplest form). Putting two letter sounds together and slowly expanding. At home, reinforce letter sounds with your child! Phonetic awareness is very important as we move forward to grade 1.

Having the solid foundation of letter sounds and letter recognition will propel them to read and write in French!

Thank you for your cooperation!

Mme Burnham!

Fab Feb News

We have been having fun despite the cold weather! We continue to focus on "family" as a class and it is going great! The students have been presenting with such joy! Thank you for assisting your child! This week you should be receiving your child's report card. Please sign the last sheet, place it in the envelope and send it back! Also, parent teacher interviews are on Thursday!  This requires an appointment. As Valentine's day approaches, please do NOT send any treats to the class! Please consider sending a craft item so the class can create something special instead!

Thank you for your constant support!
